What is Peanut Butter
Peanut Butter is a relatively unprocessed, high protein spread, made by roasting and grinding peanuts. A pure and natural peanut butter will have only 1 ingredient - peanuts. Flavoured peanut butters can include sweeteners like jaggery, honey or sugar, or chocolate and other fruit flavours. Many commercial brands use hydrogenated fats, trans fats, sugars and palm or other oils. These additions are not healthy.
When buying a peanut butter, always aim for one with fewer ingredients - ideally, something that has only peanuts and other real food ingredients like real chocolate, jaggery or spices.
Why is Peanut Butter Healthy
Peanut Butter is a true superfood and is one of the best vegetarian sources of protein. It has a great balance of all the macros - Protein, Carbs and Good Fat - which make it an ideal fitness food, especially for vegetarians and vegans who don't consume meat.
High Protein
Peanut Butter is high in protein. As part of the legume family, peanuts can give up to 22.5g of Protein in 100g quantity.
Low Carbs
It has low Carbohydrate content. Peanut butter has only 20% Carbohydrates which makes it suitable for Low-Carb-High-Fab diets like Keto.
Good Fats
With a good dose of good (monosaturated) fats, peanut butter makes for a great addition to weight-loss diets despite having a high calorie count. The fats in peanut butter are similar to the ones that come from olive oil, and are known to help improve insulin sensitivity.
As a result, peanut butter gives your body energy and the strength it needs to remain active and fit. Protein is good for maintaining healthy hair, skin and nails, and as part of a balanced diet, it can help you to get up to 16% of your Recommended Daily Allowance of this essential macronutrient.
